MILITARY HISTORY WEEKEND
    May 17th - May 18th

This Military timeline event welcomes all military impressions from ancient times to the present.  Reenactors are encouraged to interact with the public in their camps.  Visitors will learn about military life, watch reenactors practice martial skills and find out how to get started recreating their time period of interest.  Public demonstrations of weapons, clothing and tactics will be held within the fort's parade ground.  Reenactors wishing to participate are encouraged to register by using the form on this site or by calling (319) 372-8917 ext. 275.  For more information on this event contact Dr. Eugene Watkins at the above number or at ewatkins@fortmadison-ia.com.


FORT MEIGS GUN CREW AND GARRISON WEEKEND
    June 21st - June 22nd

Cushing's Company, 2nd United States Artillery is back!  This group of dedicated volunteers and staff, from Fort Meigs in Perrysburg, Ohio, are returning to demonstrate artillery techniques and garrison life.  The crew will be serving a 2 ¾ pound "Daniel King" howitzer this year, illustrating one type of gun used at Old Fort Madison during the fighting here in 1812 and 1813.  In addition, the company will put on drill and musket firing demonstrations, as well as being available to discuss clothing and living conditions in the army during the War of 1812.  For more details contact Dr. Eugene Watkins at (319) 372-8917 or at ewatkins@fortmadison-ia.com.


HISTORIC 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION
    July 4th

Come celebrate the 4th of July with the garrison of Old Fort Madison!  Watch as the garrison fires thirteen shots in accompaniment with the officers' thirteen toasts in a period commemoration of the America's freedom.  For more information contact Dr. Eugene Watkins at (319) 372-8917 or at ewatkins@fortmadison-ia.com.


NATIVE AMERICAN SYMPOSIUM
    August 18th - August 19th

Come and hear some of the area's and nation's foremost experts discuss Native Americans and their interaction with the early American Republic.  We are still gathering speakers so please check back for more information concerning who will be speaking and on what topics.


RENDEZVOUS WEEKEND
    September 6th - September 7th

The Buckskinner Rendezvous traditionally held on Rodeo Weekend is back!  Come see what life was like during the days of the fur trade.  Covering a wide range of time, from the mid-eighteenth to the mid-nineteenth centuries, reenactors will demonstrate many different frontier skills, from leather working to cooking to knife and tomahawk competitions.  A wide variety of rendezvous goods will for sale as well.  Come down and see the excitement!  Reenactors wishing to participate are encouraged to register either with the form provided on this site or by calling (319) 372-8917 ext. 275.  For more information contact Dr. Eugene Watkins at the above number or at ewatkins@fortmadison-ia.com.


SIEGE OF FORT MADISON
    September 27th - September 28th

Fort Madison was attacked in September 1812 as part of frontier wide offensive by the Indians, which included sieges at Fort Wayne and Fort Harrison in the Indiana Territory as well.  Come see a recreation of this amazingly well coordinated and nearly successful offensive.  Visitors will see and interact with Sac, Fox and Winnebago warriors, British and American regulars as well as militia and U. S. CANDLELIGHT
    November 1st

Probably our most popular event, the Old Fort's candlelight reenactment transports you to the past.  Beginning at 6:00 PM, visitors take a journey through life at the fort by candlelight.  Reenactors act out historic events, many actually having occurred at the fort, giving spectators a glimpse into how it might have been.   For more information contact Dr. Eugene Watkins at (319) 372-8917 ext. 275 or at ewatkins@fortmadison-ia.com.
